Marmentini and his Dragon

El Dragón de la Calderona is the life project of the sculptor Rhea Marmentini with which she is carrying out a project of experimental landscape recovery through art. The aim is to rescue an old quarry of odeno in the foothills of the Natural Park of the Sierra Calderona in the municipality of Gilet (Valencia). It currently houses an exhibition of his work and a space for graphic creation managed by the Cultural Association El Dragón de la Calderona.

Be Our Maecenas

The Calderona Dragon has been vandalised for seven years due to different circumstances. At the present time, its creator, Rhea Marmentini, together with the Dragon Artists have formed the ‘Asociación Cultural el Dragón de la Calderona’. This association is duly registered and its main objective is to proceed with the repair and development of the Dragon.

The Dragon of the Calderona

In 2004, Marmentini came across an old quarry in the foothills of the Sierra Calderona Natural Park in the municipality of Gilet, where he had his ‘vision’ and perceived that this was the place for him.

The Awakening of the Dragon

The Dragon has been dormant for a long time due to a forest fire that devastated the surrounding forest. During this time, it has suffered a lot of vandalism due to the fact that on social networks it was touted as a stage to visit on the existing hiking routes in the Sierra de la Calderona. After several years sleeping, it was decided to wake it up and open it to the public in November 2020. And the works to repair the vandalism suffered also begin.

The Cultural Association of the Dragon of the Calderona has been constituted as a non-profit institution, with the aim of raising funds for this purpose. At present, this Cultural Association manages the rehabilitation and reconstruction works by means of the contributions made by the patrons of the Dragon.

At the same time, open days are organised during which visitors are welcome and artists who are developing a varied production, especially graphic artists, are invited.
